Welcome to Paprika Hostel's Web page!

Hi Guys - I'm Andi!

Paprika is my hostel, made for all you backpackers who enjoy a cosy, social atmosphere; a place where you can relax between exploring the city's sites and joining our staff to experience the best nightlife and events Budapest has to offer. Paprika is a new concept in hostels - if you are tired of the stale, sterile and unwelcoming nature of some hostels then Paprika is a breath of fresh air! We take the best aspects of the hostel way of life and mix it with our own ideas to try and make the perfect place for backpackers to enjoy Budapest!

THE HOSTEL
Instead of a stand-alone building with a reception desk and a billion rooms and beds - We have kept it simple. Four spacious bedrooms surrounding a social and intimate common room and a fully stocked kitchen. The apartment is newly renovated, beautifully decorated and decked out with everything you could possibly need (see the facilites section for more details). The apartment itself is located in a stunning Art Nouveau building from the turn of the 20th century.

THE ATMOSPHERE
As we too are experienced travellers we know that to make the most of the sites, activities and nightlife you will need to be able to relax, socialise and forget the stresses of travelling while at our hostel! Thats why we try to make you feel as comfortable as possible with an emphasis on socialising. After just a few days you should know all the staff and fellow guests on a first name basis. At Paprika we only accept small groups and solo travellers so as to keep the social atmosphere alive. If you are not looking to socialise, make new friends and generally hang out with other like-minded travellers then Paprika may not be for you: but if this sound exactly like what you are looking for then you will fit right in! Our staff do not hide behind a desk but hang out with the travellers too; always ready to help out with any needs or questions you might have. So whether its sitting around the table eating dinner, playing cards or just enjoying a few drinks with new friends, chilling with a book, watching a film or just generally lazing about in our super comfortable bean-bags and couches; you will always feel right at home at Paprika!

THE STAFF
Probably the most important factor in making sure you get the most of your visit. We are a multilingual (English, Spanish, German, Romanian and of course Hungarian!) bunch who are all involved in Paprika because we not only love Budapest, but enjoy socialising with people from around the globe. We treat every guest like an old friend and will tirelessly work to make sure that your experience in Budapest is one to never forget! The Paprika family currently consists of three; and as they will be heavilly involved with your stay here is a little headstart about us!

Andi - After many years working in and managing several Budapest hostels; and acting a european tour guide, I decided it was time to give it a go myself and thus Paprika was born! Originally from Transylvania I moved to Budapest to begin my studies. I have also spent time living in the USA and Germany. In the summer I worked  as a European tour guide. I love going out and playing Foosball, if you like you can challenge me! I have also recently recieved my make-up artist certificate which I hope to do more of this in the future. One of my greatest passions in life is cooking, and I believe nothing tastes better than a home-cooked meal.

Mik - The ex-pat Aussie boozer who has made Budapest his second home. Currently having spent 7 months around the city in 2009 and previously working with Andi, he's back again for another season of laughs, beers, partying & of course drinking games! Always eager to get everyone out on the town to experience the unique nightlife of Budapest and tends to rely on others to fill in the blank spots the next day. You may even see Mik's mean Malaysian chicken curry on the Paprika menu..

LOCATION
Location is always important when visiting another city and here at Paprika we feel we have found the perfect spot. Located on a quiet backstreet of one of the most lively areas of Budapest you will never be more than 5 minutes walking from many of the cities best restaurants, bars and clubs! Within 15 minutes walking you will be able to see almost all the major tourist attractions Pest has to offer; and with our location not too far from the river you will also be able to venture across to Buda with a minimum of fuss! Around the corner exists our local metro station, as well as many tram and bus lines and the major domestic train station. Everything you need is right around the corner – but our quieter backstreet location means you will always have a good nights rest!

BUDAPEST NIGHTLIFE PAPRIKA STYLE
With such a short time in a city its always hard to know where the best and most interesting nightlife in the city is; but at Paprika we will take you to the best nightlife spots in Budapest on one of our FREE NIGHTLY BAR CRAWLS. Whether you are interested in Budapests famous ruin bars, super-cheap student nights or even the infamous Cinetrip Spa Parties which take place in one of the cities most famous Turkish baths – there is always something for everyone. Due to the size of our hostel our nights out are always with small, unintrusive groups that allows the staff to take the guests where they want to go, not just the bars that will allow tourists!

CHECKING IN / OUT

Arriving in a new city can sometimes be stressful even for the most experienced of travellers; a new language, culture, unfamiliar streets and a lot of research to be done to find out what there is to do. Thats why we put extra special effort into making sure you feel settled in as soon as you arrive at Paprika. Even in the days prior to your arrival we will email you detailed and precise instructions to finding the hostel (not that it is too difficult!) Once you have arrived we will show you to your room, take you around the hostel, make you a cup of tea or coffee, introduce you to whoever is around so you can start making friends immediately; then sit you down with a map of Budapest for 15 minutes explaining the sights, activities and events available in the city. Hopefully you will feel immediatley at home so you can relax and begin to explore the city. What is also important is that we not only reccomend the ultra-touristy things to do but recommend any personal favourites we have – whether it be sights, activities, restaurants or nightlife. Whatever it is that you are into, we will help you make the most of your time in Budapest.

Checking out is equally relaxed – if you can bring yourself to leave this wonderful city! A check-out time can be arranged ont he day prior to your departure – this will be dependant on your flight/train/bus time, whether we need that bed and of course making sure we can keep the rooms sparklingly clean! In any case you will always be able to leave your luggage and the possessions in the hostel after you check-out to grab one last glimpse of the city!

We look forward to having you visit soon!

Lots of Love,

Andi & Mik!
